My weekly roundup of the oddities on my FYP is out. Conspiracies, Cocktails, and Carmen’s FYP features Zombies, parasites, viral religious leaders, Jimothy, and subliminal messages!

On a personal note, I always giggle putting this together. Imagine a normal person scrolling their FYP and suddenly encountering my level of weirdness. I feel a little like I am shoving people to the precipice of the rabbit hole, without having to get dirty.

Yesterday I found a piece on Substack written by an American, who had asked Canadians what America could do to mend relationships. While the responses from readers were earnest and well thought out, and the intention of the author was kind and appreciated, there was something missing.

I wrote a little piece about the movement, the base, and the hate, conspiracy theories, religion, fears, and distrust that is mobilizing far-right movements globally. It is not just the man, it’s those 77 million who voted for him, Maple Maga, and the movement globally we have to respond to.

Much has been written about the negative responses of Americans to Canadian Wildfires. Angry posts, politicians introducing bills to freeze the assets of Canadian politicians and block their visas, and a complete lack of compassion for those harmed by the fires is the common response. Americans are not the only ones ragebait posting about the fires, so too are Maple Maga here in Canada. Under these responses lies a constructed victimhood that renders those perceived as the enemy, liberals in this case, as not human, not capable of suffering, and not worthy of compassion or sympathy.

This week’s conspiracies, cocktails, and Carmen’s FYP is posted. Conspiracies about Canada’s forest fires, fairy folk, and possible immaculate conceptions are on the menu, all served with a great recipe for a Dark and Stormy.

A news article about God Portals for Trump led me to write about the importance to democracy, society, and politics to looking below the salacious of conspiracy theories. Conspiracy convergence brings together religion (in this case the New Apostolic Reformation), the occult, radical politics, and conspiracy theories.

Days after Canada, conservative MP Jamil Jivani posted accusations against the Liberal Party that they were forcing grant recipients for events in late June to name their events, Multicultural events. This accusation apparently came from a “friend in Newcastle” Ontario. What Jivani does not acknowledge, other than this is untrue, is that June 27th is Multiculturalism Day in Canada. The fake crisis he is creating reinforces anti-immigration hate in the nation.

I wrote a piece about CPC MP Jamil Jivani’s Canada Day and July 4th celebrations. They focused on hate, conspiracy theories, and fearmongering.

Rarely will I post this much on my Substack, but the Chris Rufo interview in the New York Times had to be addressed. Rufo’s disinformation, conspiracy theories, racism, and lies were not addressed at all by Ezra Klien.

Rufo reminded me of Paul Weyrich, who was a John Bircher, co-founder of the Moral Majority, The Council on National Policy, and the Heritage Foundation. Rufo is benefiting from those who came before him in the far-right political movement of the GOP, and using their lessons to shape an America led by the wealthy, Christian nationalism, and where those not in the 1% are controlled by conspiracy theories, fearmongering, hate, and lies.
